Short answer: the best AI pulse survey prompts name the audience, the decision you need, the themes, the length, and the anonymity bar. Vague prompts produce generic Likert stacks. Specific prompts produce drafts you can edit in minutes.

Prompt template that works

Copy this skeleton and fill the brackets:

Create an anonymous employee pulse survey for [audience / approximate size]. Goal: [decision or learning]. Cover [3 to 5 themes]. Target [N] questions, mostly [Likert / multiple choice], with at most [1 to 2] optional free-text items. Tone: [professional / conversational]. Avoid leading or accusatory wording. Do not ask for names, emails, or manager names. Prefer questions that remain useful in aggregate for groups of [minimum reporting size] or more.

Then generate, cut length, run a bias pass, and walk through as a respondent.

Prompt library

Quarterly engagement pulse

Create an anonymous pulse for all employees (about 200). Goal: spot workload and recognition issues before the annual engagement survey. Themes: workload sustainability, belonging, recognition, willingness to recommend the company as a place to work. 10 questions, mostly 5-point scales, one optional free-text at the end. Neutral wording. No demographics beyond department if teams are larger than 15.

Engineering / on-call health

Draft a survey for an engineering org of about 80. Measure on-call burden, focus time, and manager 1

quality. 8 questions. Prefer scales plus one word-cloud style free-text for "one change that would help next quarter." Avoid naming tools or individuals. Keep language usable if results are sliced by team only when the team has enough responses.

Post-reorg / change readiness

Build a confidential-feeling but anonymous pulse after a reorg. Audience: affected teams, roughly 60 people. Themes: clarity of new roles, psychological safety to ask questions, confidence in leadership communication, early signs of burnout. 9 questions. Do not ask which leader people prefer. Soften any wording that assumes the reorg failed.

Manager effectiveness (skip-level friendly)

Create a short anonymous survey employees can answer about their immediate manager without naming them. Themes: clarity of expectations, coaching quality, fairness of recognition, feeling heard. 7 Likert items, no open text. Designed so results only appear at group sizes that protect identity.

Onboarding (30 / 60 / 90)

Generate an onboarding pulse for new hires in their first 90 days. Themes: role clarity, access to tools, buddy or mentor support, belonging. 8 questions. Conversational tone. One optional free-text: "What would have helped in your first month?" Assume answers are anonymous and aggregated.

Remote / hybrid norms

Write a pulse for a hybrid company. Themes: meeting load, clarity of in-office expectations, ability to disconnect, collaboration across locations. 8 questions. Avoid implying remote is better or worse. Use balanced scales.

Exit-adjacent retention risk (stay interview style)

Create a stay-oriented pulse for a team of about 40. Themes: reasons people stay, obstacles to doing their best work, whether they see a future here in the next year. 6 questions. Careful, non-accusatory wording. Prefer not to include free text if the team is small.

Editing rules after generation

  1. Cut to the decision. If a question will not change an action, delete it.
  2. One idea per question. Split anything with "and."
  3. Limit free text. Open answers are valuable and identity-risky.
  4. Match the invite. If you promised anonymity, do not add required identity fields later.
  5. Run reduce-bias. Then read every item aloud.

Using these prompts in InviziPoll

In InviziPoll, paste a prompt under New poll → With AI, set optional tone and question count, generate, then use Polish with AI (including Reduce bias) on the saved draft. Daily generation caps depend on plan. Details live in AI poll building. I am the founder; treat product specifics as claims to verify in-app.

FAQ

How specific should an AI survey prompt be? Specific enough that a colleague could build the same survey from the paragraph alone. Include audience size, themes, length, and tone.

How many questions should a pulse survey have? Often 6 to 12. Longer instruments need a clearer reason and usually lower completion.

Can I reuse the same prompt every quarter? Yes, with a dated goal line ("Q3 workload focus") so the draft stays current. Still review wording each cycle.

Should prompts mention anonymity? Yes. It steers the generator away from identity fields and overly narrow demographic items.
