Reminders before a poll closes

Who gets a reminder, the automatic one a day before close, and why a reminder can never be aimed only at people who haven't answered.

A reminder goes to everyone a poll was sent to, never just the people who haven't answered. We can't tell who has, because answers aren't linked to the people who give them. That's what keeps them anonymous, so every reminder is worded for people who've already answered too.

Who can get a reminder by email?

People you emailed the poll's link to. When you send a shared link by email, we keep that list of addresses so we can send the same link again.

Some polls have nobody to remind by email:

  • Private polls with personal links. Each person gets a one-use link, and we don't keep the addresses they went to.
  • Access-code polls. We don't keep the addresses the codes went to either.
  • Polls shared only as a link or QR code. There's no list at all.

For those, remind people the way you shared the poll: in a meeting, a team channel, or with a Slack reminder if Slack is connected.

What's the automatic reminder?

If you emailed the poll's link to people, they get one reminder about a day before it closes. It's on by default. The email's subject is "A poll you were sent closes soon", and it says the poll closes in about a day, thanks anyone who's already answered, and says nothing about how many have answered or what the results show.

It's skipped when:

  • you sent a reminder yourself in the last 24 hours, so nobody gets two a few hours apart;
  • the poll was created less than a day before it closes, so it isn't sent minutes after the invitation;
  • the poll is a sample poll, or has nobody to remind by email (see above).

Exit pools and the speak-up channel stay open indefinitely, so they never get one.

How do I switch it off?

Untick Remind people a day before it closes. It's in the wizard's distribution step, and in the Share panel on the poll page while the poll's collecting, if you own it.

How do I send a reminder myself?

  1. Find the poll on your dashboard. Polls with participation under 70% show a Remind button.
  2. Pick the channel. Email goes to everyone the link was emailed to. With Slack connected, you can post to a channel or send DMs instead.
  3. Choose Send reminder. The dialog shows how many people haven't answered yet, as a count only.

The email's subject is fixed, "A reminder to respond to a poll", and doesn't include the poll's title, because subject lines get logged in plain text by mail systems along the way.

Are there limits?

Yes, so a button can't become a way to flood someone's inbox:

  • one reminder per poll every 15 minutes;
  • reminders for up to 10 polls per workspace per hour;
  • sending needs a paid plan or an active trial.

The automatic reminder counts against the same limits. If one of them says no, it tries again on its next run, until the poll closes.
