Handing a client its own subscription

How a sponsored client takes over its own billing, what changes and what does not, when the engagement slot frees up, and what happens to consultant access.

When an engagement ends, or when a client decides to keep going on their own, they take over the subscription. It is a change of invoice, not a migration.

What actually happens

The client's owner opens Subscription in their workspace and chooses Take over billing, then picks Pro or Business and pays. On payment:

  • The sponsorship clears. The workspace bills itself from then on.
  • Your engagement slot frees up immediately, and your Clients list drops to the new count.
  • We record that you brought them, permanently.

Nothing else moves. Same workspace, same address, same polls, same results, same keys, same people. No export, no import, no re-inviting anyone.

Your access after a handover

Your membership survives. An engagement usually outlives the invoice: reports get presented weeks later, boards ask follow-up questions, and a consultant locked out the moment a card is charged is a consultant who cannot finish the job.

The client ends your access when they choose to, from Admin → Users in their workspace. See Inviting the client's owner for what revocation does and does not reach.

Who can do it

Only an owner from the client. You are an owner in their workspace too, so the button is deliberately hidden from you: ending the sponsorship starts an invoice to a company that is not you, and that is not a decision a consultant gets to make on their behalf. Your view of the page explains the arrangement and says who can change it.

If you would rather just close it

You do not have to hand a workspace over. Closing it frees the slot the same way. Choose that when the client has no intention of continuing, and talk to them first: closing a workspace ends their access to the results as well as yours.

When your own licence lapses

You do not need to do anything for your clients to be safe. Their data stays, they can still sign in, and paid features stop until somebody pays. Any of them can take over their own subscription without asking you, from the same page, at any time.
